Pet owners of Fort McMurray will have between March 1 and April 30 to register their four-legged friends with a new domestic animal registration tag.
One year and two year registration tags will be available at the Fort McMurray SPCA and online.
A municipal bylaw, pets must be registered for each calendar year and must wear their tags at all times. The tags not only provide identification for the pet, but also help provide the municipality with statistics on the number of pets within the region.
The tags are limited to dogs and cats within the municipality. All dogs and cats must be registered within 14 days of purchase or ownership, within 14 days of taking up residence in the municipality, immediately upon adoption from the SPCA, or by 6 months of age if kept by the original breeder.
Tags for spayed or neutered cats and dogs costs $15 per animal per year and $50 per year for unfixed or intact animals.
